April 25th marks the International Day Against Child Abuse, a date established by UNICEF to raise awareness in society about the need to eradicate all forms of violence against children and adolescents.
In Argentina, according to data from Line 102 – the tool developed by the Secretariat of Children, Adolescents, and Family (SENAF), of the Ministry of Social Development – it is estimated that every hour, 2 to 3 children are at risk of abuse or violence.
During 2022, Line 102 for children received a total of 39,409 relevant calls, of which 21,000 were consultations regarding different forms of violence against children and adolescents. These figures are part of the “Report on calls to provincial specialized care lines for the rights of children and adolescents – 2022” published today by the Secretariat of Children, Adolescents, and Family (SENAF), of the Ministry of Social Development. These are not just statistics; they are names, they are children whose lives we can help heal and change together.
It is therefore about understanding, as a society, the shared responsibility we have and what we can do to change this reality. In terms of caring for and defending children’s rights, we invite everyone to take on their role as key actors in their protection: to know the rights of children and adolescents and to be able to report or consult in concrete cases. Also, support civil society organizations, like ours, that are addressing this issue.
Eradicating violence against children and betting on changing their future is the shared responsibility we have. Together, we can end the fear that drags them into fragility and the lack of trust that negatively impacts their development. At Hogar María Luisa, we commit every day to healing and repairing the children who need it. We invite you to join us in this task.
Be part of our Big Home to erase the scars left by abuse and build second chances.
